Our First Priority
Above all else, Alberta Steel Industries is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for our valued employees. Health and safety is everyone’s concern, but the ultimate burden of worker safety rests squarely on Management. To this end, our company motto is that no job is so urgent that it can’t be done safely.
In spirit with this philosophy, facility and equipment analysis is conducted weekly and unannounced inspections occur randomly. Moreover, in addition to diligent compliance with Alberta’s OH&S code, our internal policies build upon the minimum standards established by provincial legislation.
Boasting a Zero Incident Record
Our Health and Safety Committee meets on a monthly basis and advises Management on safety improvements. New hires are required, as a condition of their employment, to study the company Safe Work Practices manual and pass a written examination. And finally, Certificate of Recognition (COR) requires that ASI undergo a semi-annual comprehensive audit of its health and safety management system, including documentation review and observation of work practices—a continual process of review and assessment to verify that our systems are working.
Our integrated approach to managing HSE and quality involves daily in-plant personnel training and observation of safe work practices in the shop and field. Chemical hazard education is conducted daily with the aid of Material Specification Data Sheets and WHMIS, while our work procedures are constantly improved and updated to meet new legislation.
